The world-cup winning player of Indian National Cricket Team Gautam Gambhir joined Bharatiya Janata Party to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019. It is expected that Gambhir will contest from New Delhi Constituency for BJP.
The 37-year-old joined the party in the presence of Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. “It is a significant induction,” said Arun Jaitley, one of the two union ministers who addressed a press conference to make the announcement.
Gautam Gambhir likely to contest from New Delhi:
Recently, the former opening batsman was conferred with India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri award and received a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The former cricketer might contest the April-May national election as a BJP candidate from Delhi. The 37-year-old may contest from the prestigious New Delhi constituency, currently held by the party’s Meenakshi Lekhi, sources have said.
The former India opening batsman retired from cricket in December after a 15-year stint. He is an active member in doing social service and always expressed his opinions out strongly for his country.
His performances in the finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan and the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka helped India win both the titles. However, after that, he failed to show his consistency, which saw him being out of the team.

Despite that, he earned 58 Test caps and scored nine centuries and 22 fifties in the longest format of the game. Gambhir’s last appearance in an Indian shirt came in 2016. He played for Delhi in the domestic circuit before calling it quits in 2018.
All in all, it would be interesting to see how Gambhir functions in the new role. His fan base and all his services for the country on and off the field would certainly help him win the election contest.

Wish you well @GautamGambhir. Politics needs honest, committed people. Much as I admired your first innings, I hope your second innings is even better.

#GautamGambhir was a good batsman but I'm very impressed by his philanthropic acts.
Joining @BJP4India is his decision and I'm sure that he'll help the society. He doesn't need politics for money or fame. He's already a celebrity.— Jaydeep Bapat (@Jaydeep_Bapat) March 22, 2019
