Harmeet Singh, the former Indian Premier League player, was arrested on Monday (February 20) after he allegedly drove his car straight into Andheri railway station platform.
The incident happened around 7:15 am when Harmeet’s antics created utter chaos among the commuters after which, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) confiscated his car and arrested the former Mumbai Ranji player.
Confirming the news, a senior official said the 24-year-old was booked under sections 147 (trespass), 145 (b) (commits nuisance and act of indecency), 154 (endangering safety of passengers) and other relevant provisions of the Railway Act.
“He is said to have brought the car on to the platform from a road, which has been laid to bring in raw material for construction work at the station,” an official of the Andheri RPF, said.
“He is from Punjab. He lives in [the northern Mumbai suburb of] Malad. He seems new to Mumbai. As of now it looks like he did it by mistake. We see no other reason behind it. He has been arrested,” he added.
Harmeet, who has played 14 first-class matches so far, was a part of India’s U-19 squad that had won the World Cup in Australia in 2012. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2009 before moving to Jammu & Kashmir in 2016. He also played for Rajasthan Royals in 2013 IPL season, where he played only one match.
