ToggleThe maiden appearance of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 will mark the beginning with the first Ashes Tests between England and Australia at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on 1st of August 2019.
The world governing body had first proposed this event in 2009. Thus, the proposal was set to take place in 2013, but due to the unavoidable circumstances, the event couldn’t materialise.
Besides, with the championship not based on the stand-alone tournament, it will run for two years between 2019 and 2021.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had initiated it to keep the Test set-up very much alive.
Despite the introduction of the short-paced competitions and the advent of domestic professional leagues across the globe, the multi-day format has its own charm with having witnessed Ireland and Afghanistan recently joining as the Test nations.
ICC Test Championship is first of its kind:

In a bid to engage more fans, the ICC had further introduced that the home and away series will help teams in earning crucial points.
Besides, the top nine teams will play six series which includes three away series as well for the two years.
Irrespective of the number of games played by the teams, each series will carry a maximum of 120 points. Thus, it means that teams could secure as many as 720 points to take a shot at the finale.
However, if the grand finale will culminate in a tie, both finalists will be gauged based solely on the points table.
