The cricket fraternity hailed Ravindra Jadeja for his outstanding century against England in the ongoing Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Ravindra Jadeja, on Saturday (July 2), scored his maiden overseas Test century as India further strengthened their position against England at Edgbaston. Before the latest knock, Jadeja had scored two centuries but both of them had come at home.

His previous highest Test score away from home was 86 not out. Incidentally, that knock had come against England too at The Oval in 2018. Jadeja’s century came at a time when India badly needed his services.

The southpaw had come out to bat when the team was in all sorts of trouble. Asked to bat first, the visitors were reeling at 98 for 5 when Jadeja joined Rishabh Pant in the middle. At that stage, it looked like India would not even manage to cross the 200-run mark.

However, Pant and Jadeja put up a scintillating show with the bat to not only bail the team out of trouble but also put it in the driver’s seat. The duo added 222 runs for the sixth wicket as India crossed the 300-run mark.

Pant hogged all the limelight on day one thanks to his attacking ton. He scored his century off just 89 balls and was dismissed for 146. Jadeja, on the other hand, played the role of second fiddle to perfection and mixed caution with aggression to play a stunning knock.

Ravindra Jadeja completes his century:

At the end of day one, Ravindra Jadeja was unbeaten on 83 and it did not take him long to complete his century on day two. He and Mohammed Shami started the proceedings with the bat and did not face too many questions from the England bowlers.

Jadeja reached his century in the 79th over bowled by Matthew Potts. On the fifth ball of the over, he was dropped by Zak Crawley at slip and the ball went for a four. On the following delivery, he hit a cracking four through the offside to complete his maiden Test ton outside India.

And as soon Jadeja reached the three figures, the cricket fraternity lavished praise on him for his knock. Here are some of the reactions:
