After a brilliant inaugural season that saw them topping the table with nine wins, Gujarat Lions will be keen to bow out of the tournament on a good note this season. Led by the maverick Suresh Raina, one of the most successful batsmen in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the debutants punched above their weight and exceeded all expectations before losing both their qualifiers to exit the tournament.

All bases of the team were very well covered and so, it was not surprising to see the Gujarat-based outfit doing a lukewarm business in last month’s player auction for the upcoming edition of IPL. Barring buying England opener Jason Roy, they didn’t go for any other big names and it was very much understandable.

With the hope of going one step up ahead this time around, they’ll begin their campaign on April 7 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Rajkot. Their last match is against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 13.
