Gujarat Lions owner confident of team's chances in the IPL

Gujarat Lions are definitely the team to watch out for in the upcoming edition of the Vivo IPL. IPL’s latest franchise has an array of stars and explosive batsmen in their ranks who can single-handedly change the course of the game. With Suresh Raina at the command, the team’s base will be at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Local boy Ravindra Jadeja too will add a lot of variety in the side.

From the batting front, the likes of Raina, Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum and Dinesh Karthik are some renowned names and their presence means that the Lions have the talent to go the full distance in the tournament. The presence of all-rounders such as Jadeja, James Faulkner, and Dwayne Bravo just adds further depth into this explosive outfit.

At a recent interaction with the media, team owner Keshav Bansal said that he was extremely confident about his side’s chances in the upcoming edition. “We have a strong core team. We worked hard on structure draft that was submitted to the Indian Premier League to pick up players and I am satisfied that I managed to get the players which I wanted in my team,” Bansal said. “We wanted to make a balanced team with experience and talent and I am happy that we could manage to get the experience and talented cricketers.”

Bansal also said that the presence of some reputed names in the ranks such as Raina, McCullum and Faulkner would give his side an edge over the other sides. “Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Brendon McCullum, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo are all great players and have done well for their respective countries and I am happy that these players would play from Gujarat Lions,” he said.

Bansal was also quizzed about the indifferent form of skipper Suresh Raina, who averaged a mere 10.25 in the recently concluded ICC World T20. Bansal backed the southpaw to do well in the IPL and said, “Every player faces this problem in their careers. Raina is a matured cricketer and I don’t think that he would be under pressure for leading a side first time in IPL. Every player remains under pressure to perform well and Raina has very good track record. Our focus is to provide a suitable atmosphere to players can perform well.”
