Gujarat Lions vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: Player Ratings

The 15th match of the season saw two teams with contrasting fortunes taking on each other. The only unbeaten team in the tournament Gujarat Lions welcomed Sunrisers Hyderabad at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were looking to gain some momentum after registering their first win in the tournament in their last match while Gujarat Lions were looking to clinch the top spot.

Following the trend of this season, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner decided to ball first after winning the toss.
Gujarat Lions got off to a poor start as they lost in-form opener, Aaron Finch, cheaply. Suresh Raina was the lone bright spot in Gujarat Lions’ batting as the other batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Gujarat Lions could score only 138 from their 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a brilliant start for the first time in the tournament and in fact, their openers remained unbeaten to take them home without any hiccup.
David Warner was in a punishing mood as he went after Praveen Kumar, smashing him for four fours in an over. SRH got past fifty even before the power play ended and were on course to complete a comfortable win.

Let us see how the players fared for SRH:

1. David Warner: 4.5/5
Continued his brilliant form with the bat. Played aggressively in the powerplay to completely end any hope of a fightback from Gujarat Lions.

2. Shikhar Dhawan: 3.5/5
Finally got some runs under his belt. Was not at his fluent best early on but did enough to support the in-form, David Warner. Played some good shots after settling down and completed a deserving half-century.

3. Moises Henriques: 2.5/5
Did not get to bat but bowled three very economical overs.

4. Eoin Morgan: 1/5
Did not get the chance to bat.

5. Deepak Hooda: 2/5
Did not get the chance to bat but bowled three decent overs and also took the important wicket of Dinesh Karthik.

6.Naman Ojha: 1/5
Did not get the chance to bat.

7. Aditya Tare:
Did not get the chance to bat.

8. Bipul Sharma: 2.5/5
Bowled two very economical overs and dismissed the dangerous Brendon McCullum.

9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 4.5/5
The best bowler of the match, he dismissed Aaron Finch very early in the innings to set the tone for SRH. Took 4 wickets including the dangerous looking Suresh Raina towards the end to end Gujarat Lions’ hope of getting some quick runs towards the end.

10. Mustafizur Rahman: 3/5
McCullum was totally clueless against him. Bowled 4 very economical overs.

11. Barinder Sran: 2.5/5
Was quite expensive. Conceded 36 runs from his 4 overs.
