Bollywood star Anil Kapoor said that the recent controversy surrounding Indian captain MS Dhoni and his association with Amrapali, a real estate firm, were ” very unfortunate”. The actor said that endorsing a brand comes with a lot of responsibility but it is tough for anyone to presume the legitimacy of a particular company in the long run.
A few days ago MS Dhoni resigned as the brand ambassador of Amrapali, days after the unhappy residents of a housing project in Noida launched a social media protest, asking the cricketer to disassociate himself from the realty firm.
Dhoni received plenty of tweets from unhappy residents who kept urging the Indian skipper to end his association and said that he will take up the matter with the builder and it must deliver on its promises.
“I have always endorsed those brand whom I believed and supported,” the actor said.
“I feel it is such a speculative business and sometimes you don’t know (what will happen). What happened to Dhoni is very unfortunate. Sometimes real estate brands look very legitimate and honest so these things happen. You can’t stop them,” added the 59-year-old who was in the national capital with star Farhan Akhtar for the announcement of the 17th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards.
