IPL 2017: Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana Lead Mumbai Indians To A Tense Win Over Kolkata Knight Riders

Youngsters Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya sailed Mumbai Indians to a tensed win over Kolkata Knight Riders, as it was on the penultimate ball of the game when fans finally blinked their eyes after Hardik Pandya smashed a four off Trent Boult to win the game for his team.

There were many errors committed from both the sides but the misfield from Suryakumar Yadav on the second delivery in the last over of the game was the biggest error made, which the stand-in captain in absence of Gautam Gambhir would like to rewind and rub.

Mumbai Indians though had a good start to the chase but their forces got slow in the middle overs, thanks to an economical spell of 4-0-22-1 from Sunil Narine, who did not let scorecard go up.

Nitish Rana, who is called the second Gautam Gambhir of Delhi kept calm during this time and it was in the end when he opened his arms, to take his team close to a win.

He shared 41-runs with Hardik Pandya in just 14 deliveries to put his team on the brink of a win. The finishing work was done by Pandya, who alone scored 10 runs in the last over with the bat to cross the finishing line.

It was a combined effort from the two youngsters, which they will cherish for a long time to come.

Before Rana-Pandya blitz on a batting friendly wicket, Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn provided a stable start to the team. However, a bowling change soon changed the stable word into tottered, as Krunal Pandya removed Gautam Gambhir and his succeeding batsman Robin Uthappa in the same over.

Lynn too departed soon after adding 19 runs with Manish Pandey for the third wicket. His wicket led to a dip in scoring rate, as Yusuf Pathan was taking his time and his dismissal was a blessing in disguise for Kolkata Knight Riders, as Pandey started playing shots after his dismissal, adding 44 runs along with SuryaKumar Yadav in just 27 balls.

Pandey continued the same style of the play until the end and it was in the last over where he did most of the damage and stretched his team’s score to 178, which read as 155 before the start of the over.

His timely innings came at an ideal time as KKR was in desperate need of that kind of innings and it was a masterpiece from Pandey, through which he aided the team to reach this total.

However, the team lost a nail-biting encounter, which will continue to pinch them for long.

Brief Score: Mumbai Indians 180/6 (Nitish Rana 50, Parthiv Patel 30; Ankit Rajpoot 3-37) defeat Kolkata Knight Riders ( Manish Pandey 81*, Chris Lynn 32; Krunal Pandya 3-24) by 4 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
