Sri Lanka Vs India: Hardik Pandya’s Maiden Test Hundred Surprises His Father

The promising Indian prospect Hardik Pandya’s innings has taken his father Himanshu Pandya by surprise after smashing a brilliant century, on the second day of the third and final Test of the Seagram’s Royal Stag series at Kandy against hapless Sri Lanka.

The 69-year-old Himanshu revealed his son has improved a lot both with the bat and a ball as well while revealing he didn’t expect a century from Pandya this early in Test cricket.

“I didn’t expect this century so early in his career, but I am confident about his good show as he is improving day by day,” Himanshu was quoted as saying by mid-day.

While appearing on the Test scene for the first time during the ongoing series, the 23-year-old Gujarat-born handy all-rounder also smashed a fifty on his debut at Galle before returning with a triple-figure mark off 86 deliveries at Pallekele.

When Pandya reached his ton, he raised his bat and the helmet while celebrating in a similar way to Shikhar Dhawan.

While talking to a media outlet from Ahmedabad, Himanshu wants his ward to continue his best to benefit the national side in whatever way he is capable of being doing so.

Adding to the tally, Pandya smashed 108 runs off 96 deliveries as his innings included seven sixes and eight boundaries while coming to bat at the No.8 position before picking the wicket of Angelo Mathews.

The proud father Himanshu revealed he enjoyed Pandya’s batting while watching the game on television back home alongside family members.

“I was enjoying the match with the family members on TV, but we did not expect him to score such a T20-like knock to reach his century,” Himanshu maintained.

Moreover, after enjoying the feat of his son Pandya, an excited father like Himanshu revealed his son has worked hard and reaped the rewards for it.

“The way he played after his 50, was superb. We enjoyed his century,” Himanshu added.

Coming to the conclusion, Himanshu recalled the innings of Pandya against Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy 2017 where he blasted 76 off 43 balls before a mix-up between him and Ravindra Jadeja saw the former walking out of the ground in utter distress.

Interestingly, Himanshu further stated India would have won the grand final on June 18 in the Oval, had Pandya played the innings like he played against Sri Lanka on August 12.

“If Hardik would only have played like he did today against Pakistan in that Champions Trophy final, we would easily beaten them and won the tournament,” Himanshu concluded.

So far, in three innings of the red-ball cricket, Pandya is averaging at 59.33 with the bat after scoring 178 runs.

On the other side, Pandya has featured in 17 One-day Internationals and 19 Twenty20 Internationals. He is averaging 41 with the bat in 50-over format and bagged 19 wickets. In 18 innings of T20Is, Pandya claimed 15 scalps.
