There is some fantastic news in store for all cricket fans across the globe, as the highly revered and respected Harsha Bhogle is set to be back as a full time commentator. In a recent development, the BCCI enlisted four names as their commentators, comprising of Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Harsha Bhogle and Murali Kartik.
This news brings about a colossal respite to all television cricket viewers, who missed the services of Bhogle’s commentary since the 2016 World T20. The World T20 in India last year was Bhogle’s final assignment as a full time commentator, after which he was suddenly asked to stop his work by the BCCI and official broadcasters Star Network. Bhogle till date wasn’t given the precise reason behind his sudden axing from the commentary panel.
However, it now emerges that Bhogle is set to be back as a full-time commentator in India’s matches, home as well as away. The legendary commentator recently made his comeback to the commentary, during India’s limited overs tour of the Caribbean, and is currently covering the series in Sri Lanka for Sony ESPN Network.
Committee of Administrators member Diana Eduliji said that the four names had been considered and would be finalized once the Conflict of Interest issues were looked after carefully.
“We have discussed the names but it has not been finalised. We need to look into the Conflict of Interest rules properly. We still don’t know who’s having what interest,” Eduliji said.
“The BCCI does not want to take any chances. The Lodha Panel reforms state clearly that one needs to ensure that anyone associated with the BCCI does not have any Conflict of Interest. We must remember that former COA member Ramchandra Guha, in his resignation letter, had referred to Gavaskar’s involvement with Professional Management Group,” a BCCI members was quoted saying.
