Has BCCI Humiliated Dravid, Zaheer and Kumble?

Anil Kumble resigned as the Indian team’s national coach just before the start of the West Indies tour to leave the team without a coach.

It all began with the media reports of some rift between the captain and the coach during Champions Trophy last month in the United Kingdom. Virat did not utter a single word regarding the whole scenario, whereas Kumble came up with a letter after his resignation stating that, since the captain is not happy with his work, it is better that he step down and the former coach also wrote that the relationship between him and the skipper was untenable.

Just when it looked that all the fiasco in Indian cricket is about be sorted, the Cricket Advisory Committee decided to appoint Ravi Shastri as the successor of Anil Kumble, along with Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant and Rahul Dravid as the batting consultant for overseas tours.

Soon after this news, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) have approved the appointment of former team director Ravi Shastri as the head-coach, but appointments of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were kept at bay by the members of CoA who met to discuss the recommendations made by the CAC.

This decision is not only making a mockery of Indian cricket worldwide, but also questioning the achievements these three legends achieved on the field while representing the country.

Firstly, BCCI told the legendary leg-spinner that team’s captain is not happy with his style of coaching and him continuing as head coach, which eventually forced the latter to step down from his post. The BCCI did not stop there, after naming Indian cricketing legends like Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as the supporting members of Ravi Shashtri’s team to help Indian cricket move forward, the inner-rift between CoA and BCCI resulted in putting their contracts on hold.

The CoA consist of only one ex-Indian player – Diana Edulji, who is a former women’s cricketer, and she along with an economist – Vinod Rai cannot really question the appointment of people who have contributed so much to the game and to the nation.

This whole scenario is just an utter humiliation for these legends, and the BCCI and Supreme Court need to find some answers to restore the faith of fans in Indian cricket.

Even one of the former members of the CoA, Ramachandra Guha showed his displeasure on whatever that is transpired after the BCCI started searching for a new head coach. The Historian tweeted,

“Kumble, Dravid and Zaheer were true greats of the game who gave it all on the field. They did not deserve this public humiliation.”
