Batsman’s debut match is the first step towards building his career and carries huge importance. Promising performance in the first-ever game can open more opportunities for him. But scoring three-figure runs in the Test debut sets their careers up for further progress down the line. There are quite a lot of cricketers who have scored a century in their first-ever Test.
Talking about Indian cricketers, a total of 15 players have managed a hundred in their inaugural Test appearance. Prithvi Shaw is the latest one to join the list. Here, in this article, we have listed the five Indian players who registered highest Individual score on Test debut:
5. Sourav Ganguly-131 runs
In 1996, Sourav Ganguly made his Test debut against England in the second Test of a three-match series at Lord’s Cricket Ground alongside Rahul Dravid. India had already lost the first Test match and was looming to lose the second Test as they had already lost two wickets for 59.
At No.3, Ganguly came to bat, and the debutant dismantled the opposition with his blistering hundred. He became the only third batsman to score a ton in his debut at Lord’s. He went on to score 131 runs before being dismissed by Alan Mullally. Also, Ganguly’s 131 still remains the highest by any batsman on his debut at Lord’s. Meanwhile, the second Test ended in the draw.
