Mumbai is a city known to produce legendary cricketers especially batsmen.
Whenever we talk about Mumbai cricket then the name of the two “Little Masters” instantly comes to our mind. Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar have been the biggest names from Mumbai who have gone on to represent India successfully for a consistent period. Both have an enormous mutual respect for each other, and it was evident one more time during the launch of Democracy’s XI, a new book launched by Rajdeep Sardesai in Mumbai on Monday.
Harsha Bhogle anchored the show, and the two Little Masters and the author of the book were also present at the launch. The conversation went on for about an hour, and the two legends spoke on numerous aspects of the game.
During the end of the show, it was Rajdeep Sardesai who asked Tendulkar that who would be the batsman batting for his life.
Tendulkar was surprised with the question, as he felt that there was no batsman other than Gavaskar who could have been his idol. He emphasised on the fact that it was Gavaskar who inspired him as a batsman and he was the batsman who was looked upon by the young Mumbaikars during Tendulkar’s time.
Sachin further added that Gavaskar’ name was given as an example by his coach Ramakant Achrekar to model his game on. Tendulkar was a more attacking batsman and a complete batsman than Gavaskar, but he had time and again emphasised on the fact that Gavaskar has been the man to look out for as far as batting is concerned.

When the same question was asked to Gavaskar, the former India skipper didn’t take any time to name Tendulkar. He clarified that it wasn’t because Tendulkar was sitting next to him but because he felt Tendulkar is a complete batsman he has seen play live. Gavaskar further added that if he were to make someone bat to save his life, it would be Sachin Tendulkar. He felt that Tendulkar is a way ahead of the rest and no one even comes close.
