Ian Bell Signs New Warwickshire Contract Until 2020 County Season

England batsman Ian Bell has signed a new contract with his lifelong cricket club Warwickshire until the end of the 2020 County season, the Warwickshire team website has announced on Wednesday.

The right-handed batsman Bell has shown satisfaction to extend the long-term contract with his old club before adding he would give his best to win the title for Bears. He had joined the club when he was just ten.

“Warwickshire is the only county I’ve ever wanted to play for and I’m thrilled to sign this new long-term contract to remain a proud Bear and help the team to push for even more silverware,” Bell was quoted as saying by English media.

The 34-year-old overlooked Test batsman Bell has been significant for England in 118 Test matches in which he has scored 7,727 runs at an average of 42.69 after announcing his limited-overs retirement in 2015.

Spread over 205 Test innings, he has smashed 22 hundreds and 46 fifties for England which further included 100 catches in the longest format of the cricket.

However, he didn’t feature in the national team in Test format after England lost to Pakistan 2-0 since November 2015.

“The club has played a huge role in my career, and it’s a great honour to now captain the team and help our young, talented players fulfil their potential here at Edgbaston,” Bell added.

The top-order batsman Bell has been at the forefront to regain his lost place in the national side for the longer format of the game.

Bell has scored 18, 533 runs in 279 first-class matches at the average of 44.33 which included 51 hundreds and 96 half-centuries.

The most-capped player for Warwickshire, Bell is supposed to work with club’s sports director and former England spinner Ashley Giles which further includes team coach Jim Troughton in the coming County edition.

“Ian is a true Bear who has been with Warwickshire since the age of 10 and has gone on to be one of the most decorated players in the club’s history,” Giles remarked.

In the domestic circuit, Bell has played a significant role for Warwickshire where he has clinched sixes titles which further included One-Day Cup of Royal London as it was his first season to lead his side Birmingham Bears against Surrey at Lord’s.

“He [Bell] continues to be one of the leading batsmen in the country across all three formats and, as our captain, he sets exceptionally high standards for the rest of the squad,” Giles added.

Interestingly, Bell was part of the Ashes team when they lifted the coveted trophy on five occasions since 2005.

The Walsgrave-born was the part of Ashes-winning team in 2009, 2010-11, 2013 and 2015. He has played seven Ashes series’ against Australia there on which also includes the 2013-14 season after 2006-07 respectively.

Since 2004 Bell had played 161 One-day Internationals in which he had amassed 5,416 runs at an average of 37.87 runs which included four hundreds and 35 fifties
