ICC Cricketer of the Year 2018, Virat Kohli feels Honoured to Bag Multiple Awards

The India National Cricket Team captain, Virat Kohli has earned multiple ICC accolades on Tuesday. The 30-year old broke all barriers to become the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2018; ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2018; ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2018 and the Captain of ICC Test and ODI Team of the Year 2018. Feeling grateful over winning a few records for the second year in a row, Virat said it is the result of the hardwork he had done in 2018.

Virat Kohli acknowledges the awards

The India skipper, who is currently in New Zealand for the bilateral limited-overs series; thanked everyone through a video, released by the twitter handle of ICC. Expressing how grateful and honoured he is to receive the awards; Virat said with his team doing equally well, he is a happy man at the helm. He further said,

“Getting recognition from the ICC at the global level is something to feel proud of as a cricketer. You understand that many players are playing the game, and to be reawarded  in this manner amongst them is a proud moment for me” Virat Kohli said.

“It is something which gives you more motivation to keep repeating the same things because you have to keep the standard of cricket up and high. You have to keep bringing in consistent performances; so from that point of view, I am grateful.”

It has been an amazing year – Virat Kohli

2018 was the year to remember for ages for Virat Kohli. The star batsman broke many records and set a new one in the calendar year. Across both the formats, Kohli scored runs at will and kept the opposition under his grasp. Off the many eye-boggling records, Virat scoring hundred in South Africa, England and Australia as an Indian captain is one of them; as no skipper from the country in the past had achieved the feat in one year.

Also, India’s number three in ODIs completed 10,000 runs in 50-over cricket, taking the fewest innings to reach the number (205). Also, in the limited-overs, Virat had scored 1202 runs at an average reading 133.55 in 2018. Looking back at the figures he had attained in the past year, the India captain said,

“It’s been an amazing year. I was able to play in a manner I wouldn’t have imagined. If the intention is right and you keep working hard, the results are there in front of your eyes. So the intent has to always be helping the team at any cost, and that’s when these performances come by” Kohli concluded.

Captain Kohli owns 2018

Not just as a batsman, but as a captain too, Virat didn’t leave a stone unturned. Though India suffered defeats in Tests in South Africa and England; Virat Kohli helped India retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia. However, the story in the ODIs has been different. Playing against Proteas, India won the six-match series 5-1, while in England, the Indian team fell short of winning the ODIs. Later at home, the Indian side outnumbered the Windies across formats.
