Eoin Morgan, the former England World Cup-winning skipper, has expressed his confidence in Jos Buttler’s ability to lead the England cricket team in the coming years, as long as Buttler is physically capable of fulfilling the role for the team in International setup.

Jos Buttler, who took over the captaincy from Morgan a year ago, made an immediate impact by leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup in Australia. The wicketkeeper-batter is now determined to inspire his team to succeed in the upcoming one-day international ODI World Cup and defend the title they won on home soil under Eoin Morgan four years ago.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, Eoin Morgan has expressed his confidence in Jos Buttler’s ability to lead the England cricket team for as long as he wants to.

The former captain praised Buttler for his contributions to the team over the years and believes that the same group of players, even if they are in their 30s, may represent England in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

“Without doubt, Jos is the man to lead for as long as he wants. He’s one of the best players in the world, he’s unbelievably well respected in the England changing room and around the world, and has proven that he’s an excellent captain tactically and is an excellent leader. I think that’s just a given, for me.”

“You might see some players retiring, but even then you’ll see the same group of players trying to win World Cups. Even though players are in their 30s, they’re fitter, healthier, and better medically treated than ever. You would say people should be able to play for longer,” Eoin Morgan said.

After a disappointing performance in the 2015 World Cup, England strengthened both their batting and bowling abilities, which eventually led them to win the championship on their home soil in 2019. However, they will face tough competition as they try to defend their title in sub-continental conditions.

India Have Got All Bases Covered – Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan believes that India has a great chance of winning the ODI World Cup in their home country. He believes that India has a well-rounded team and expects that Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah will be crucial players in their success.

“As good of preparation as you could possibly have I’d have had them favourites before Hardik Pandya was back bowling before (Jasprit) Bumrah came back against Ireland… They’ve got all bases covered,” Eoin Morgan added.

Hardik Pandya has been an X-factor player for the Indian team in white-ball cricket, as the all-rounder gives a proper 6th bowling option in the team alongside his batting in the middle order, while Jasprit Bumrah has been a match-winner for India across the formats and could play a vital role for the team in the World Cup.
