ICC Rankings: Virat Kohli Equals Sachin Tendulkar’s Record for Highest Ratings in a Year

The series between Sri Lanka and India has brought a lot of changes in the ICC ODI rankings list.

The new rankings issued by the ICC on Monday saw Kohli extending his lead over David Warner from 12 to 26 points.

Virat Kohli now has 887 points in this calendar year and has equalled the all time record of Sachin Tendulkar, who also had the same number of points in 1998.

Kohli, who is already considered as a contender to break most of Sachin’s record is all set to break the record of highest rating points in a calendar year, as India still have a lot of ODI cricket to play in 2017.

Kohli amassed 330 runs in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which India won 5-0. Kohli also scored two centuries which took his tally to 30 in ODI cricket, and also made him the joint-second highest hundred maker with Ricky Ponting (who also has 30 tons) on the all-time list of most centuries in ODI’s with Sachin leading the list with 49 centuries.

Even Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni rose in the ICC rankings as a result of their excellent performances in the five-match ODI series. Rohit gained five spots in the ranking to move to the ninth spot, as he scored two centuries with a total of 302 runs in five ODI’s.

MS Dhoni was back in the top ten of ICC rankings. Dhoni scored 162 runs in five matches in which he remained not out in four innings. He rescued India twice in the series, as India’s top order struggled in the second and third ODI.

He was India’s mainstay down the order in the series. Dhoni jumped two places from 12 to 10th spot in the rankings.
