ICC Test ranking: Pakistan moves to 3rd at the expense of India

Winning the historic Sri Lanka series chasing a record 375 runs, Pakistan toppled India to earn the third position in the latest ICC Test ranking.

Meanwhile, India with dismal record in the last one year had no choice but to go down at fifth position in the current ranking chart. 

India last won a Test in July 17-21 at Lord’s, in between they played 12 Test.  During this time India was humiliated by New Zealand 1-0 , England 3-1 and Australia 4-0 and against Bangladesh the one off rain affected Test was drawn .

On the contrary, Pakistan won three series, one against Australia and two against Sri Lanka.  Overall they won seven matches out of 15.

Pakistan are now standing third with 101 rating points in 24 matches while India is positioned fifth with 97 rating points in 23 matches.   

At present South Africa top the ranking chart while Australia are at second position with less than 19 rating points to South Africa’s superior 130 rating points.

Among the others, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka are standing 4th, 6th and 7th position respectively while ranking of West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe remain unchanged at 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.  The only country who don’t have double figure in the ranking chart is Zimbabwe.

As the five match Ashes series is going to begun on July 8, England have chance to topple India from fifth position. However, India will also have measurable chance to earn some good rating points from Sri Lanka series and that may help to find a respectable position in the ranking chart.
