Australia thrashed defending champions and hosts Windies by 71 runs to storm into the final of ICC Women’s World T20.
With Australia ending Windies’ journey in the competition, the ICC Women’s World T20 will have a new champion on Saturday. The team from Down Under avenged their loss in the final of the competition two years ago. The huge home crowd was left disappointed as Windies completely failed to compete in the game.

With the pitch being two-paced, both the teams found it tough to score easy runs. Alyssa Healy, who was under an injury cloud heading into the game, once again starred with the bat. She scored 46 off 38 balls on a tough pitch to scoop her fourth ‘Player of the Match’ award of the ongoing competition.
Australia were off to a shaky start, losing Beth Mooney for just 6 in the third over. However, Healy and skipper Meg Lanning added 51 runs for the second wicket to set the tone for a good total. Afy Fletcher broke the stand by denying Healy a deserved fifty.
Windies enjoyed a brief period of success when they prised out Gardner, Lanning and Elyse Vilani in quick succession to reduce Australia to 113 for 5. However, Rachael Haynes’ unbeaten 15-ball 25 ended their hopes of stopping the three-time champions from scoring a competitive total. Haynes struck four boundaries in the 19th over bowled by a hobbling Dottin to push the total past 140.

In reply, Windies were off to a disastrous start, losing openers Hayley Matthews and Dottin for just 15 runs on the board.
Australia’s bowlers never let Windies play without pressure. Elysse Perry led the way with her 2-2 from two overs, while Delissa Kimmince (2-17) and Ashleigh Gardner (2-15) also impressed with the ball. Windies were eventually all out for 71 to bow out of the competiton.
