South Africa’s spearhead Dale Steyn is unlikey to play against India on Sunday as he missed team’s training session on February 18th (ahead of their second World Cup clash against India) due to flu. Steyn reported a sore throat and a blocked nose after South Africa’s opening clash against Zimbabwe on February 15th, which they won by 62 runs. The team management is yet to issue an official statement on Steyn’s fitness but he still has three more days to get ready for Sunday’s clash at MCG.
On the other hand, India’s off-spinner R Ashwin survived an injury scare in the team’s practice session on February 18th at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. While batting in the nets, Ashwin mistimed a pull-shot and got hit on his right-arm. He left the nets for sometime but eventually he shrugged off the pain and came back to bat again. The good thing is that he looked comfortable while going for the shots again.
This will be for the 4th time that India and South Africa will clash in World Cup. South Africa have got the better off team India on all previous three occasions and it’ll be interesting to see whether the latter will break the former’s streak this time or will the streak extend to 4-0.
