ICC World Cup 2019: Except Mohammed Amir, Others Did Not Bowl Well- Sarfaraz Ahmed
Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed expressed his disappointment after their loss to Australia. His side were unable to control from the beginning but had shown flashes of brilliance on the day.
After winning the toss, Sarfaraz put Australia to bat first. However, Aaron Finch and David Warner took the attack to Pakistan bowlers. They forged a brilliant 146 run partnership for the opening wicket. However, once Finch was dismissed for 84, Warner went onto make his hundred.
But a middle order collapse meant Australia were all out for just 307 in 49 overs. Mohammed Amir was the pick of the bowlers. In the chase, Pakistan never really took off. But they had promising knocks from Imam Ul Haq, Mohammed Hafeez. Even then, they lost three quick wickets in the span of 14 runs.
Speaking after the game, Sarfaraz was quick to point out their middle order collapse. But he praised Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz for their batting efforts. Both the tail enders made valuable knocks to help Pakistan in the chase.
“Definitely very disappointing. Lost three wickets in 15 balls from 140/3. To take positives, Hassan Ali batted well, Wahab batted well. Fought in the end but could not finish it off well.”
The skipper went onto praise Mohammed Amir. The left arm pacer took 5 wickets on the day and brought Pakistan back into the game. But their middle order collapse is one of the major concerns for the team.
“Except Amir, others did not bowl well. For me, this was a 270-280 pitch. To win matches, top four has to perform. Made runs but couldn’t convert. To win matches, top four must score runs.”
Pakistan played valiantly but could not be on the right side of the result during against Australia. The result also meant that Pakistan have now lost 14 of their last 15 games against Australia.
Meanwhile, despite this loss, Pakistan should quickly lift their spirits up. They are set to play against India on Sunday. The match promises to be the biggest one, in terms of TV revenue, audience engagement across the world.
Sarfaraz Ahmed was quick to acknowledge about the big game ahead. And he promised the fans that the team will try their level best against India on Sunday.
“India-Pakistan is a big match so we’ll try our level best.”
