India Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara had felt that things were a ‘bit unfair’ for Kane Williamson-led New Zealand after they lost the grand finale against England on July 14 (Sunday 14). In the absorbing finale, the two top-notch teams had battled it out in the low-scoring thriller.

The 31-year-old believes the trophy should have been shared. He added it is all about the ICC to make such decisions.

The prominent cricketer Pujara maintained that he is not sure about the rules and regulations, as this had happened for the first time in the World Cup final.

While speaking to the PTI on the sidelines of the sports meeting held by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Pujara asserted the game would be remembered for so long.

“I felt there were no losers in the final. Both teams should have shared the trophy. But then it is up to ICC to decide, to come up with ideas. It has never ever happened in a World Cup final before, so I am not sure about the rules,” Pujara told PTI.

Moreover, Pujara has praised Kiwis for putting up on a grand show. Pertinently, the Black Caps had produced a superb effort in the semis against Indian at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Also, he had credited both teams for their game despite some awful moments unfolding in the finale.

“But it can be a bit unfair for New Zealand, because they played so well. But ultimately it was a great game of cricket and I’m sure this game will be remembered for the time to come,” Pujara concluded.

On Sunday night, England had won the title for the first time, and that too on the virtue of the most number of boundaries. The Three Lions had slammed 24 fours and two sixes, whereas, Kiwis managed to find the fence on 17 occasions.
