ICC World Cup 2019: India Receive Hefty Prize Money Despise Semifinal Exit

It was one of the sad moments for the Indian National Cricket Team when they lost a key game against New Zealand. The flamboyant Indian side was the hot favourite to win the tournament but unfortunately, returned home after the exit from Semifinal. Despite that, they are set to receive a huge sum from the International cricket council.

As the tournament is round Robin league, the apex body has made sure that the winning team would receive prize money for every game. In that case, India lost only one game in the league phase while one game was lost to the England team, which saw them finish on top of the points table.

However, the loss against 4th placed New Zealand saw them flying back home without tasting the final at Lords. Despite that, the Indian team won the prize money of $8000000 from the governing body for the making the way into the last four of the tournament.

The champions of the competition will take whopping prize money of $4 million. The winners also get the golden trophy which usually stays with the ICC.

As it happened:

In the semifinal clash, chasing a moderate total, the Indian team lost there top three batsmen for a cheap score. After the top-order dismissals, Dinesh Karthik, sent in at No. 4, failed to make the most of the opportunity and was dismissed following a spectacular catch by Jimmy Neesham.

However, Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni produced a 116-run stand for the 7th wicket before Jadeja skied a delivery bowled by Trent Boult, with Kane Williamson taking a clean catch to break the partnership.

With Dhoni still in middle, all hopes were not over. But the Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman saw Guptill turn from zero to hero in a split second. His direct throw – aimed at a single stump – got Dhoni just inches away from the crease.

In the end, India lost the semi-finals against New Zealand by 18 runs at Manchester. In the next assignment, they will lock horns with Windies team in West Indies.
