ICC World Cup 2019: Jhye Richardson Ruled Out of Showpiece Event, Kane Richardson Named as Replacement

Australia fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the upcoming 2019 World Cup on Wednesday after the fast bowler failed to recover from a dislocated shoulder. In the place of Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson has been picked as his replacement. Jhye Richardson sustained the injury during Australia’s last series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates last month.
However, the Aussie selectors felt that he could be included in the squad. Hence he was picked for the 15 member squad for the World Cup slated to be played from 30th May. However recent tests have proved that it won’t be possible for him to recover in time for the showpiece event.
“This is obviously very disappointing news for the team and for Jhye, who has been exceptional throughout his rehabilitation process,” said team physiotherapist David Beakley. “After his most recent assessment and attempting to bowl in the nets, it was clear that Jhye was not progressing as fast as required. Therefore, in consultation with selectors, we made the decision to withdraw him from the squad.”
Another fast bowler with similar abilities like Jhye Richardson was called in as a replacement for Jhye Richardson. It was a surprising call to see experienced fast bowler Josh Hazlewood getting overlooked. However, it had to do with him being out of action since January.
Hence it won’t be easy to push him for such a big event. Australia chief selector Trevor Johns stated that the main plan was to make Josh Hazlewood ready for the Ashes Test series which is slated to begin from August. The spearhead in the longest format was named in Australia A squad which is slated to play side games in England while the World Cup will be on progress.
