ToggleOn Tuesday, June 27, the ICC announced the schedule for the highly-anticipated ICC World Cup 2023. The tournament will be gracing the grounds of India from October 5 to November 19. This edition is particularly special as it marks India’s solo hosting venture, having previously shared the responsibility thrice.
The tournament’s opening fixture will be played at the magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, treating fans to a thrilling clash between England and New Zealand, who locked horns in the last edition’s final. Hosts India will open their campaign on October 8 in a mouth-watering clash against Australia in Chennai.
The ICC World Cup 2023 will witness the participation of 10 teams. Eight of these teams have already secured their spots through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The remaining two positions will be decided at the conclusion of the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 in Zimbabwe, slated to culminate on July 9.
Talking about the format of ICC World Cup 2023, each team will play against the other nine teams once. The top four teams will then advance ahead of the league stage to the knockout phase.
The tournament will be played across a total of 10 venues – Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Adding to the excitement, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, along with Hyderabad, will host the warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3, setting the stage for the grand tournament that lies ahead.
ICC World Cup 2023 – New Zealand World Cup schedule:
Last edition’s runners-up New Zealand will be in action on the very first day of the ICC World Cup 2023. They will have the opportunity to avenge their loss 4 years ago when they take on reigning champions England in Ahmedabad.
4 days later, they will be playing against the Qualifier in Hyderabad before taking on Bangladesh in Chennai. On October 22, the Black Caps will play against hosts India before taking on arch rivals Australia on October 28. Both the games will take place in Dharamsala.
