ICC World T20 2016: 5 emerging players

The ICC World T20 2016 which took place in India saw many young talents showcase their worth to the world and for their respective countries. Apart from established players like Kohli, Gayle, Root, the T20 tournament was a perfect stage for them to shine and try to bring glory to their countries.

Here we look at the 5 emerging players in the ICC World T20 2016.

  1. Mitchell Santer

Mitchell Santer playing for New Zealand was the most impressive emerging player in the tournament. The 24-year-old left arm spinner produced an excellent display of spin bowling. In the first match against India, he took 4 wickets and gave away just 11 runs which were best figure by a New Zealand spinner in World T20. He bowled with good pace and variations not allowing the batsmen to hit big strokes. The pitches in this tournament also helped the spinners a lot. In the whole tournament, he picked a total of 10 wickets at an economy of 6.27 which is great for a spinner in T20 format.

  1. Carlos Braithwaite

Carlos Braithwaite played a key role in helping West Indies winning their second World T20 title. In yesterday night finals against England, he picked 3 wickets and gave away 23 runs, while batting he scored a quick fire 34 off 10 balls. In the last over West Indies needed 19 runs and Carlos Braithwaite smashed four sixes in a row. His power hitting was visible during a league stage match against South Africa. In the last over West Indies needed 9 runs off the last over but Braithwaite smashed a huge six helping them to reach the semi-finals. His key contributions at important times took the cricketing world by storm.

  1. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is another talented young player performed well in the tournament expect for one match. In the match against Bangladesh, he bowled the last over and defended 2 runs off 3 balls. He became an unlikely hero in the match, against Pakistan he took an excellent catch and against Australia he again picked 2 wickets. In the semi-finals against West Indies, he went for many runs and also bowled a no ball at an important time. Hardik Pandya also has the potential to become an all-rounder. He is also an explosive batsman in the middle over who can hit the ball a long way.

  1. Jason Roy

Jason Roy played an important role in helping England reach the finals of the ICC World T20 2016. In the  match against South Africa, Jason Roy provided a quick-fire start to the team chasing a massive target of 230. He made 43 off 16 balls. In the match against Sri Lanka, he scored 42 runs which helped England to post 171. In the semi-finals against New Zealand chasing a target of 154 scored 78 off 44 balls helping England to win the match by 7 wickets. In the tournament, he scored a total of 183 runs. Despite not scoring a run in the finals, he made sure that England scored big runs and chase down targets due to his aggressive hitting.

  1. Mustafizur Rahman

The young Bangladesh pace bowler impressed with bowling. He did not play all the matches in the tournament. His best part about bowling was the ability to deceive with his slower ones and Yorkers. He played against India, Australia, and New Zealand. In the match against New Zealand, he picked 5 wickets which was the best figures in this tournament. Rahman picked 9 wickets. He bowled good bowls and did not allow batsmen to hit big strokes.
