Former Pakistan pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar is worried about the squad’s inconsistent batting ahead of its match against Ireland in a must-win final pool B league encounter of the International Cricket Council World Cup on Sunday in Adelaide.
Pakistan has won 3 out of 5 games to be locked on 6 points with Ireland and both sides require a win to stay above West Indies, who are likely to get past UAE, in the league table. According to Shoaib, Pakistan’s batting effort will be key in the important match in Adelaide.
Shoaib Akhtar told PTI that he is not worried about Pakistani bowling attack, it is their batting which he is concerned about, particularly while chasing a target.
The Misbah-ul-Haq-led team has failed to cross the 250 run benchmark barring just once when they posted 339 runs for the loss of six wickets against an inexperienced UAE attack while Misbah is the only batsman in the ranks to average above 50. Shoaib Akhtar trusts Pakistan are a better team while defending a target.
Akhtar said that according to his view, Pakistan should choose to bat first if they win the toss and set a huge target which is tough for Ireland to chase against the bowling attack of Pakistan.
Grant Flower, Pakistan’s batting coach has warned the batsmen of pulling up their socks in time or it might get too late.
The Pakistan batting coach said that he would like to believe their best is yet to come. If they do not, he does not think they will go much further in the World Cup.
