Bangladesh Cricket Team has been dealt a big blow as their opening batsman Imrul Kayes has been ruled out for the one-off Test after suffering a thigh injury while fielding in the two-day practice match at the Gymkhana ground.
The 30-year-old left-handed batsman Kayes injured his left thigh when he was fielding against India A.
Rabeed Imam, the Bangladesh Cricket Board media manager stated it’s the same injury which saw the batsman to get ruled out of the second Test in Christchurch against New Zealand.
Kayes scored just four during the first innings and did not bat in the second innings during the practice game in Secunderabad
The reports suggested middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain has replaced Kayes.
While losing the One-day international series 3-0 followed by Twenty20 International series 3-0 and two-match Test series 2-0, several Bangladesh players suffered injuries during their New Zealand tour last month.
However, Kayes recovered from the thigh injury to join the Test squad last week in Hyderabad.
The 23-year-old Soumya Sarkar, who replaced Kayes in Christchurch, is likely to open the innings with his senior partner Tamim Iqbal.
The Khulna-born Kayes has played 27 Tests for Bangladesh in which he has scored 1432 runs at an average of 28.64.
The Test will be played in Hyderabad from February 09.
