India cricket might have been graced by some of the finest spinners the world has ever seen, but India’s latest spin sensation Kuldeep Yadav has revealed that not any Indian but two Australian spinners have played a big role in his rapid rise.
Speaking on the eve of the second T20I against Australia, the chinaman spinner revealed the roles played by Shane Warne and Brad Hogg in shaping up his career. Kuldeep met Warne for the first time during his Test debut in Dharamsala earlier this year and has not looked back.

He began his international career with a bang, dismissing four Australians, as India went on to win the Test and the series. After the game, Kuldeep had mentioned the role of Warne’s tip regarding the flipper that helped him to get rid of David Warner. The left-arm spinner, meanwhile, has not looked back since his debut. He was India’s highest wicket-taker in the ODI series against Australia, taking seven including a hat-trick at the Eden Gardens.
He impressed in the first T20I too, taking two for 16 in his four overs to bag his first Man of the Match award. And speaking before the second game, Kuldeep once again mentioned the role of Warne as well as Hogg in his career.
“Both play a very important role in my career,” Kuldeep said. “I’ve followed Shane Warne since childhood. He’s my idol.
“My life will be a success if I could achieve 50 percent of what he has achieved,” he added.
Talking about Hogg with whom he shared the dressing room in the IPL, Kuldeep said:
“You learn a lot with a fellow chinaman, be it his flipper or wrong’un.”
He’s 46 now with a career span of over 23 years. For me, it’s just the start of my career. It’s great to gain some experience from them,” he added.
