IND vs AUS 2017, 4th ODI: David Warner Creates History in his 100th ODI

David Warner has been an absolute beast for Australia in ODI’s for quite a while now. His numbers since 2016 have been phenomenal, to say the least, as the southpaw has left a trail of destruction in his path.

Warner has been so prolific at the top of the order that after 100 ODI’s, he has the second most number of runs, second only to Hashim Amla. Playing his 100th ODI in Bengaluru in the ongoing series against India, Warner ensured the milestone game for him turned out to be a memorable affair. On a deck that was tailor-made for his strokeplay, Warner notched up an impeccable ton as he enjoyed taking on the Indian bowlers.

Getting to the 14th century of his ODI career, Warner piled up a fine knock indeed in the fourth ODI of the series, as he was ruthless against the Indian spinners. His knock of 124 came off just 119 deliveries, and it marked the first occasion for an Australian to score a hundred in his 100th ODI. Quite a remarkable achievement that for someone who has been a superb limited-overs player.

Before the game though, Warner was quite confident the change in rules around his bat size wouldn’t affect his game much.

“Well my bats have already been changed,” Warner said. “I’ve been using them for the last couple of weeks. In Bangladesh, I was getting used to it. It is basically the same bat that I started my career with. So I just basically took it down to my bat maker and said, ‘We just got to go back to what we started with’. It didn’t really affect me then, so I don’t think it’d affect me now.”

“I think everyone’s sort of been misled in a way where they think the big bats clear the fences easier than what the old bats used to. From where I stand on it, basically, we were hitting sixes with the bats five-six years ago and still hitting sixes today.”At the end of the day, you obviously have to use what you’re given and it’s not going to make a difference at all,” Warner said.
