Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah will not be participating in the upcoming second ODI against Australia which will be played on September 24, 2023, at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The three-match series sees India leading by 1-0 thanks to their victory in the first ODI in Mohali.

Jasprit Bumrah made his India comeback last month in the Ireland T20Is. He had been out of action since last September due to a stress fracture to his back and had undergone surgery earlier this year. He had missed the Asia Cup 2022, the T20 World Cup 2022, the home Australia Tests in 2023 and IPL 2023.

After the Ireland T20Is, Bumrah also played in the Asia Cup 2023, where he missed one match, against Nepal due to the birth of his first child. Most recently, he played in the first ODI against Australia in Mohali.

However, he will be missing the second ODI match against Australia in Indore as he received permission from the BCCI to return home to spend a few days with his family. The third ODI will be played on September 27 in Rajkot and this means Bumrah will have a decent break to be with his newborn.

Mukesh Kumar Named Replacement For Jasprit Bumrah For The Second ODI

Meanwhile, the BCCI has named Mukesh Kumar as the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, only for the second ODI in Indore. Bumrah will come back for the third and final ODI in Rajkot which will be played on September 27.

“Jasprit Bumrah did not travel with the team to Indore for the 2nd ODI against Australia. He has gone to visit his family and was given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah’s replacement for the 2nd ODI. Bumrah will join the team for the final ODI in Rajkot,” BCCI posted on social media platform X.

India has a great chance to take a commanding 2-0 lead today in the second ODI at Indore because the series is still up for grabs, their recent performance, and the result of the Mohali match.

Prior to the return of first-choice players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav for India’s final official encounter before the World Cup, this is the last chance for players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to leave a lasting impression.

Particularly Shreyas wants to get back into form after missing out on a flat track in the last game. In order to bolster his and his team’s confidence going into the international event, Shreyas wants to score heavily in the next two games.

Despite having a clean bowling recovery, Ashwin found it difficult to trouble the Australian batters on a flat track. In the event that Axar Patel is unable to recover in time, the World Cup-bound Indian side still has the option of including the defending champion spinner, but the 37-year-old’s performance has not met expectations.
