Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch feels Suryakumar Yadav should have prepared better to face Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in the ODI series against Australia. The 32-year-old middle-order batter registered back-to-back golden ducks against Australia in the ongoing three-match series.
Yadav has been facing heavy criticism from cricket fans–and experts over his shot selection in the first two matches, completely misjudging the line and length to get trapped in front of the leg in both matches.
Speaking on Star Sports, about Yadav’s dismissal, Aaron Finch thinks Yadav should have been a little sharper while the left-arm pacer.
“Suryakumar got two beauties from Mitchell Starc. But he knows where he would have been bowling, he’s got to be sharper than that in the first couple of balls,” Aaron Finch said.
Aaron Finch further reckoned that Indian opener Shubman Gill, who scored a terrific century against Australia in the final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, played a couple of loose shots in two matches which lead to his dismissals. “I think Shubman Gill played a couple of loose shots, which would disappoint him especially after being in such good form. He was caught at a backward point to not great deliveries. If you get knocked over as an opening batter by a genuine delivery, you can accept that. But when you get out when you are in such good form, you get so disappointed,” stated Finch.
India will take on Australia in the third and final ODI match in Chennai on Wednesday. As Chepauk has a history of favouring the spinners, India will be more confident going into the contest. On the other hand, Australia who made a thumping win over India in the 2nd ODI will look to carry the momentum to clinch the series against India.
Wasim Jaffer admitted it was difficult for any batter to negotiate the opening spell by Mitchell Starc, but feels Suryakumar Yadav should have anticipated the ball coming in from the left-arm pacer. Surya found no answer to Starc in both matches as he was trapped in front of pads in both matches.
