Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reckoned that it is important to play attacking cricket on these kinds of wickets. Indian batters were bowled cheaply by Australian spinners in both innings. Australia made a thumping win over India to keep their hopes alive of drawing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Rohit Sharma Stressed that it is important for someone to play the kind of innings that Shreyas Iyer played and said that it is very difficult to score big runs on these pitches so it is important to play small cameos which will help to put decent runs on board.

When you are playing on pitches like these, you need a Shreyas Iyer kind of an inning. Someone has to step up, someone has to take down the bowlers. It cannot be always that the batters will get 100 runs, 90 runs, or 80 runs. You have to play cameos like that,” said Indian skipper on Shreyas Iyer’s performance.

Iyer played an attacking knock of 26 runs while batting at No.6. in the second innings before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc, he was dismissed for a duck while batting in the same position during the first innings.

If one of the top batters can get a big score, that’s a plus. But, when you know the pitch has some offers, there is a challenge, you need guys to go out there and play the way Iyer did,” he further added.

Rohit was seen in an animated conversation with Ishan Kishan after which Ishan ran out on the field and delivered a message to the Indian batters in the middle. It looked like Rohit Sharma wanted the Indian batters to play a more positive brand of cricket.

It Did Not Make Any Sense To Me – Sanjay Manjrekar Criticises Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was under the scanner in the third test, Jadeja was seen batting ahead of Shreyas Iyer in both innings and Jadeja failed to make an impact with the bat, and Rohit also took three poor DRS in the 1st innings and his decision to send Axar Patel after Ashwin also backfired for the Indian team as Axar ran out of partners in both the innings.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar was furious with Rohit Sharma for his tactics in the match, speaking on star sports.

“Here you have two quality off-spinners bowling. It did not make any sense to me. Iyer has a great feel for spinners so you want him ahead in the line-up. And he has shown his class,” he said.

Manjrekar feels Iyer plays spinners very well and he showed his batting capabilities over spinners said that decision to send Jadeja ahead of Shreyas Iyer was a bad decision with Australia playing two off-spinners it should have been Shreyas Iyer coming in ahead of Jadeja.
