India skipper Rohit Sharma accompanied the team to Edgbaston for the all-important fifth and final day action against England.

Team India will be firmly on the backfoot when the final day of the ongoing Test against England at Edgbaston begins. After dominating the first three days of the game, the visitors are on the verge of losing the game due to their poor display on the penultimate day of the Test.

In the first innings, India had scored a big total of 416 after being asked to bat. They were reeling at 98 for 5 before centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja helped them post a 400-plus total. The bowlers then did well too by bowling out England for just 284.

With a big lead of 132 runs, India were well in command of the game when they began their second innings. Day 4 started with the tourists on 125 for 3 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant in the middle.

However, nothing much went right for India on day 4 as England put up an impressive all round display to claw their way back into the game. The hosts took the remaining 7 Indian wickets for just 120 runs to bowl them out for 245.

England then performed well with the bat too. Needing 378 to win the game and draw the series, the home side finished the day on a commanding 259 for 3, needing 119 more on the final day. Openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley shared a century stand in just 19.5 overs, England’s fastest century stand for the first wicket in Tests.

India fought back with three wickets for two runs either side of tea to reduce the hosts to 109 for 3 from 107 for 0. However, they could not capitalise on those breakthroughs as Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow put England in driver’s seat with an unbroken partnership of 150.

India will be hoping that their fortunes change on the final day and they don’t make too many mistakes with their tactics. And to ensure that, skipper Rohit Sharma accompanied the team to Edgbaston on Tuesday. Rohit missed the match after being tested positive for Covid-19.

The batting superstar travelled to the ground with the team and was seen inspecting the pitch before the play began. Rohit would be hoping that his experience makes a difference and the team makes a comeback on the final day.
