In the third one, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal’s fantastic spell handed the first ever series win for India against the Kiwis.
Here is a combined XI of the T20I series between India and New Zealand:
Shikhar Dhawan: The swashbuckling left-handed opener had been in tremendous form right from the Champions Trophy. Scoring on a consistent basis, he has cemented his place in this Virat Kohli-led Indian side.
He has once again proved his class by playing a brilliant knock of 80 runs to give his side an excellent start. He scored 87 runs in the three innings helping India to get going.
Colin Munro: He was New Zealand’s top performer, as he played an unbeaten knock of 109 runs in 58 balls to help his team post a mammoth 196 runs in the board, giving enough runs for his bowlers to defend.
Munro came off as a reliable opener, as clocked scored 123 runs in three innings with an average of 61.50. His tally of total runs consisted of eight over-boundaries and seven boundaries.
Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli will be the captain of this combined XI, as he has led this young Indian side by an example. He has been a consistent performer since his debut in the international circuit, and he is an obvious choice for any side in the world.
Kohli remained the second highest scorer with 104 runs from three matches with at an average of 52 behind Colin Munro. Kohli retained his no 1 Test ranking on the ICC T20 Batsmen list.
Kane Williamson: One of the best batsmen in the world recently, Kane Williamson has every shot in his kitty. Not a hard-hitter by nature, Williamson can manoeuvre the field at ease and can rotate the strike at will. Williamson couldn’t convert the starts, as he got out on 24, 12, and 8 runs, respectively but owes the capability to play a sensible inning.
MS Dhoni: He might be under the radar of critics, but he is still an asset to any team, as he is capable of changing the course of the game in his own hands. Dhoni did not have an impressive time with the bat, as he scored 56 runs in three innings but made it with his glove work affecting two catches, one stumping, and a run-out assisted by Hardik Pandya.
Hardik Pandya: Hardik Pandya has evolved as a cricketer in recent times, as he has provided a balance to this Indian side.
Pandya can contribute to all the three departments. He passed with flying colours, as he defended 19 runs in the last to hand his team a series win. Though he didn’t have a good time with the bat, he shone with the ball, picking up one wicket from the three overs he bowled in the series. He also took an outstanding catch in the second match.
Mitchell Santner: The left-arm spinner is a good choice, as he gets an extra bounce from the turf for his height. It can prove to be fruitful in the subcontinent, as the batsmen will find it tough to adjust with the bounce.
It will be a delight for any captain to have a bowler like Santner in his side. Though he didn’t have enough wickets, he was economical throughout out the series, and scored a crucial 27 runs in the first match, but failed to take his side home.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been in magnificent form in recent times, as he has led the bowling attack of the current Indian team.
With his swing and accurate line and length, he is capable of picking up wickets both at the start and death overs. Kumar had picked up two wickets in the ten overs he bowled in this series and is an asset to any captain.
Trent Boult: The left-arm fast bowler had led the New Zealand pace battery and was the main man behind New Zealand’s victory in the second match.
He picked up six wickets in the ten overs he bowled throughout the series including four important wickets to destroy the Indian batting line-up in the second ODI to defend the target set by their batsmen.
He had an impressive average of 16.00. He will share the new ball along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this team.
Yuzvendra Chahal: The young leg-break spinner has been a revolution for this Virat Kohli-led Indian side, as he picked up wickets at regular intervals bowling at crunch situations.
In the final match of the series, Chahal bowled magnificently, as he gave away only eight runs in two overs to successfully defend his team’s target of 68 runs. Chahal with sporting an economy rate 7.00 claimed three wickets in the three matches.
Jasprit Bumrah: The no. 1 T20I bowler in ICC Ranking List once again provided his class when he picked up two wickets giving away only nine runs in two overs to give his team a decisive victory in a thrilling encounter.
He bowled eight dot balls in his quota and with all the variations in his bag he will be an asset to any captain. Bumrah picked up three wickets in the series maintaining an impressive economy rate of 6.90.
