South Africa’s rookie T20I captain Quinton de Kock didn’t have an ideal start to his captaincy career as his team lost the second T20I against India at Mohali on Wednesday. The southpaw batsman had a good day at work with the bat but his team could not put a collective team effort. The Proteas could only manage to score 149 runs after they were put in to bat by Virat Kohli.

Thus, the tourists’ were at least 20 runs short of a par score and the hosts were able to cruise to a convincing win of seven wickets. India’s chase master Virat Kohli was once again in business as the talisman scored a fine knock of 72 runs to take his team over the line. Hence, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the series.
South Africa posted an under-par score.
Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock believes the hosts were able to read the conditions better. The Indian bowlers rolled their fingers to mix up the pace. However, the South African bowlers went with pace and it didn’t come off.
Quinton de Kock said in the post-match presentation, “We got off to a good start and towards the end, they bowled pretty well and they assessed the conditions better than we did. There was a lot of pressure on some of the new guys and I think they did pretty well against this world-class opposition. KG (Kagiso Rabada) upfront tried to pick up wickets and unfortunately, with pace on the ball it looked easier to bat on and pace off the ball seemed to be the better option on this wicket. I was quite hungry to get out there and hopefully next time we do better than what we did today with the bat”.
Meanwhile, India was able to come up with a fine effort. Kohli was fluent in his shot-making and played down the ground to give no chance to South African bowlers. Furthermore, Shikhar Dhawan scored a fine knock of 40 runs before he was caught brilliantly by David Miller.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar scalped two wickets to keep South Africa in check. The final and third T20I will take place in Bangalore on 22nd September.
