India rise to the third spot in ICC Test rankings

Krishna Chopra / 09 June 2015

The Indian team jumped several places to be positioned at the third spot in the Reliance ICC Test Rankings. The Indian team was placed at the 7th position some time back. But due to the performances of other teams changing and the annual update, the Indian team has jumped up to the third slot.

The Indians are all set to lock horns with the Bangladeshi Tigers on the 10th of June. The result of that game will have a massive influence on the points table. In a worst case scenario for the Indians, a loss will drag them down all the way to the 7th slot again. While a drawn game will mean that they will lose a couple of points and slip behind New Zealand. But they will still remain above Pakistan and England. A victory however, will be good enough for them to retain their third slot.

Heading the table is South Africa with 130 points. The Proteas are followed by the Australians who have 111 points to their name. The 19 point difference is enough to explain the might of the South Africans inTtest matches. The South Africans have won at home as well as overseas. On the fourth position are the New Zealanders, who have been on a rampage. The Brendon McCullum led side is yet to lose a series in two years.

England and Pakistan occupy the fifth and sixth position respectively. At the 7th position is Sri Lanka with 96 points. The table is really tight as there are only 3 points to segregate the third and the seventh team. The result of each and every game will be significant.
