India To Carry Four Additional Pacers To World Cup 2019, Confirms BCCI
The Indian team contingent for World Cup 2019 will have as many as seven pacers in its ranks as India will carry four extra pacers to England who will be assisting the regular pacers during practice sessions.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are the three pacers who are already part of the World Cup squad.
The four other pacers who will be travelling with the team are Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
They will be bowling to Indian batsmen at nets, helping the pacers of team India to manage their workload.
In case of any injury to any of three pacers who are a part of the squad, the selection committee will rope in one of the four pacers in the squad.
Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed find themselves ahead of others as their names were mentioned by Chief selector MSK Prasad during the presser.
Both the players had a strong chance of booking a World Cup spot but in the end, India stuck to the three pacers who have been part of the squad for long now.
Though the four paces are in the scheme of things and can play for India after the World Cup.
Meanwhile, team India’s squad for World Cup hardly had any surprises.
One could say the non-inclusion of Ambati Rayudu an Rishabh Pant was unexpected but they were not sure of a place in the team.
Rayudu missed his chances in 2019 and even after being touted as number four batsman, he couldn’t really make most of out the occasions.
Same was the case with Rishabh Pant.
He couldn’t capitalise on the chances provided to him.
His inability to finish off the games in IPL as well might have played a part in his non-selection in the World Cup squad.
Vijay Shankar, who made his ODI debut early this year, pipped Rayudu to get a place in the team.
In Rishabh’s case, it was Dinesh Karthik who was given the preference.
His experience and wicketkeeping skills played a big part in it.
Also, Dinesh Karthik’s finishing abilities are better than any other wicketkeeper-batsman in the country at present.
