India vs Australia 2017, First Test: Mitchell Starc Jolts India’s Top Order; Virat Kohli Out For A Duck

The pitch for the game is the driest pitch ever, opined the legendary spinner Shane Warne yesterday but despite this comment, the pitch curator was confident that fast bowlers will have an equal say on it.

Despite the fact that a spinner was introduced from end right at the start of the innings, despite the fact that pitch started wearing right from the first over and despite the fact that spinners were turning the ball right from the start.

Yesterday, it was Umesh Yadav for India and today it was the pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood that did the job. The Australian pair toppled the Indian top order, thus causing harm to the home team as the duo shared three wickets among themselves to give a jittery start to the Indian team.

At the start of the day two, Ravichandran Ashwin took no time to dismiss Mitchell Starc and end team India’s wait to come out to bat as after being hit for a four on the second delivery of the day, Ashwin first confused Starc on next two balls before luring him to go him for big and get caught by Jadeja few metres ahead of the boundary ropes.

An excited Indian opening batsmen, who were waiting to bat yesterday evening, had a good start as the way they handled the first six overs of the spell from Mitchell Stac and Steve O’Keefe was impressive but then came the moment when  bit of loss of concentration cost Vijay as he edged a delivery outside off stump off Hazlewood, which was safely collected by Matthew Wade.

Cheteshwar Pujara, the new man at the crease was finding it difficult to stay right from the start and he too failed and went back soon. The delighted moment for the visitors came when Starc successfully trapped Virat Kohli in his ploy and found an edge of his bat to the slips.

Everything seemed to be going Australia’s way before Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul ensured a no further damage for India till the Lunch break, thus providing a big relief to the home team.

Though Indian team still have a strengthened batting line-up to come but still these both have stayed at the crease for long to generate the hopes of getting a big lead at the end of the innings.

Brief Score: Australia 260/10 vs India /3(KL Rahul 47*, Murali Vijay 10; Mitchell Starc 2-22) at Pune.
