India vs Australia 2019: Twittersphere on the Exclusion of Dinesh Karthik from ODI Squad

On Friday (February 15) the selection committee for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the much-awaited squads for the Men in Blue, for impending India vs Australia 2019 limited-overs series. However, wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who made it to the 15-member squad of two-match Twenty20 International series, failed to impress selectors—to break into the One-day International (ODI) squad.
Moreover, Karthik’s exclusion from the 50-over format didn’t sit well with his fans. They’ve questioned the exclusion of experienced player like Karthik, who had earned accolades for winning Nidahas Trophy 2018 final.
The committee led by MSK Prasad has named three separate squads for India at its BCCI’s headquarters in Mumbai. The squads further include some exciting names considering the form and situation in the lead up to the 2019 World Cup.
They have sidelined young Shubman Gill which further saw the inclusion of KL Rahul, who earned trust following a decent show for the India A.
It’s somewhat an indicator that they’re setting focus on young Rishabh Pant. Earlier, the reports suggested the competition between Karthik and Pant in the limited-overs series will decide there faith.
Karthik sidelined to check Pant?
Besides, the 33-year-old Karthik, who has a lot in him, has an opportunity to grab eyeballs in the upcoming Indian Premier League. Karthik, who’s leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has enough games to make it count.
On the other side, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have made a return to do things according to a norm in both formats.
Interestingly, the selectors have picked Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Earlier, it was suggested that Ajinkya Rahane would get a chance in the squad. Also, they’ve ignored on resting senior campaigners.
In the all-round department, Vijay Shankar and Hardik Pandya have secured their places with fast bowler Mohammed Shami being retained following an impressive white-ball show in series Down Under.
So much so, Siddarth Kaul has made it to the first two ODIs, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar will return for the remainder of the ODI games.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted over the exclusion of Dinesh Karthik:

Will hope for better squad in World Cup with DK

why @DineshKarthik is removed..? he gets selected, doesn't appear in playing XI and if he does, one bad match and he is out of squad. he didn't do anything wrong to be thrown out…!

Doesn’t look like that. He would have atleast been in the squad for the first or the second half of series. Why to rest him when he has hardly played all the recent matches.

I am hoping that @DineshKarthik has been rested to have a look at Pant and is not out of the team for good. He has been doing really great down the order for India.

So means DK is the one who has to sacrifice everytime for sake of management faith… His recent form is that he didn't even bother to disturb score card.. I have no doubt in his potential bt policy should be same for everyone.. be it form or yo yo test

Dinesh Karthik? Why did you pick KL Rahul now? Did not test KL Rahul in NZ and giving him a chance now instead of DK… Don't understand the point… No Need to rest DK… Bad choice

Dinesh Karthik dropped to accommodate KLRahul ??
Obviously Rahul Dravid showed his power. Cheap Favoritism in Indian cricket.— Subbu (@kksubbu2003) February 15, 2019
And where is DK ?
— Parth Pandit (@imparthpandit) February 15, 2019
