New India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and keeping the dew factor in mind, decided to bowl first on a flat deck of Pune in the first ODI of the series. Yuvraj Singh returned to the ODI squad after a brief break of three years as the all-rounder replaced an under-performing Manish Pandey in the squad. KL Rahul was preferred over Ajinkya Rahane. Amit Mishra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the other two players to miss out on a place in the playing XI.
Keeping the conditions and experts comments in mind, England too decided to go with just one specialist spinner Adil Rashid with all-rounder Moeen Ali. For England, Liam Dawson, Liam Plunkett, Sam Billings and Jonny Bairstow missed out on a place in the playing XI.
A score below 290-300 will be easily chased, the cricket experts reckon. So, England will have to get past the 300-run mark in order to put India under-pressure.
