Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara, on Tuesday, became the 20th and 21st Indian batsman to score 3000 runs in Tests. Before the start of the Day 1 of the second Test vs England at Vizag, Vijay needed just 20 runs to enter the list while Pujara was mere three runs away from entering the record books.
After an early wicket of KL Rahul in the second over of the day, both Vijay and Pujara were batting alongside each other and at once, there was a race among both to reach that mark. Vijay was the first one to do so, becoming 20th Indian batsman to get his name registered in the list. After a matter of just seven balls, Pujara too achieved the feat. Both batsmen eclipsed the number with a boundary.
Unfortunately, Vijay couldn’t even add a run after the record as a shortish delivery from Anderson sent him packing.
Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first in Vizag.
