MS Dhoni has once again shown his calm and composed nature and this time on the Kiwis shores. Dhoni who was donning the gloves during the recently-concluded third and final India vs New Zealand 2019 Twenty20 International (T20I) match in Hamilton, has earned accolades for his respectful gesture towards the Tri-colour on Sunday (February 10).
In the recent past, from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli, the crazy fans have found ways to express their respect in their own ways. But when it comes to generous Dhoni it in itself becomes a compelling narrative to narrate.
During the Kiwis innings when Daryl Mitchell and Ross Taylor were at the crease, a fan has evaded the security while running on the ground. As soon as he came close to Dhoni, he bends on his knees–to pay respect to the 37-year-old veteran.
However, the fan was holding a tri-colour that touched the ground, but Dhoni quickly got hold of the national flag before allowing the fan to touch his feet.
Moreover, the fan has further expressed gratitude to Dhoni before teasing a security guard on his return.
Dhoni wins hearts again!
Besides, the incident of the heartwarming gesture was aired during the second innings only to become the talking point on social media.
Interestingly, Dhoni, who couldn’t do much with the bat, was playing his 300th T20 game. In between, he affected the dismissal of Tim Seifert on the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav–to pull things back for India in the first innings.
Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss at Seddon Park to ask Kiwis to bat first. However, the hosts put 212 for four on the board with the help of some quality batting at the top.
Opening batsman Colin Munro top scored in the virtual final with 72 off 40 balls. He smashed five sixes and as many fours.
However, in the run chase, the Men in Blue came close to the target. But the high-flying side went on to lose the game by just four runs. The visitors posted 208 in 20 allotted overs. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik 33* (16) and Krunal Pandya’s 26* (13) late blitz kept hopes high until the last ball of the match.
So, the end result was Black Caps clinching the T20I series 2-1.
Here’s how MS Dhoni shows a presence of mind by holding the tri-colour:
