India Vs West Indies 2017: Rahane-Kohli Camaraderie Carries India To 310/5

107 is the number of runs that India accumulated in the last 10 overs of the first session of the game to put up a record total ahead of West Indies, which, if and only if the host’s chase down then it will be the highest ever chase at the Port of Spain, the chances of which looks highly bleak and slim.

The captains of both the sides are responsible for India putting up this total. For India, it was fortune that runs were coming their way whereas for West Indies, as said, the skipper Jason Holder is to be blamed as he bowled three no-balls in the final over of the first innings, creating dramatic scenes on the ground when he had to be replaced for the final delivery of the first innings.

Starting the day after the match was reduced to 43 overs per side, the Indian openers continued from where they left in the first game to put up 114 runs for the first wicket before the loss of concentration resulted in Dhawan getting stumped by the wicketkeeper. But the runs assembled by the two were none less than a treat for the viewers as this time, the runs were coming fast compared to the last game and they also didn’t slow down any time whilst on the duty.

Post-Dhawan’s dismissal, Rahane found a new partner in form of Virat Kohli with whom he shared 97 runs at run a ball rate to keep the team score buoyed all trough their stay on the crease. Meanwhile, Rahane completed his third ODI century to achieve another milestone in his career. But Kohli was a glaring man in this pair as he played some outstanding shots during the innings coupled with sweet timing and fluent bat flow.

Even after Rahane’s dismissal, the Indian skipper continued to fetch runs. Few of the shots coming out of his bat just forced one to repeat and see that again, especially one which seemed to be a top edge but went for a six over cow corner. In a quest to continue scoring runs at the same pace in the later overs, saw Kohli falling short by 13 runs from his 28th century but thanks to some extra runs gifted by West Indies that helped India to cross the score of 300, 96th time- most by any team – to put an uphill task for West Indies.

Between all these positives, once again, the poor form of underperforming Yuvraj Singh is a negative for India and skipper Virat Kohli will surely take a note of it. A news of Rishabh Pant getting his debut ODI cap brew in the air before the toss, which turned out to be false but surely, it is a signal for Yuvraj Singh as he might let go his place go to the youngster if he continues to disappoint with the bat.

Brief Score: India 310/5 (Ajinkya Rahane 103, Virat Kohli 87; Alzarri Joseph 2-73) vs West Indies at Port of Spain.
