Indian Women’s Team Given A Marvellous Welcome In Mumbai 1

The Story

The India women’s team led by Mithali Raj won the country’s heart with their performances in the just concluded ICC Women’s World Cup in England. Starting as the dark horses, the inspiring bunch of ladies finished as the runners – up in the tournament.

It was heartbreaking to see them lose the final against England. The fighting spirit of the side, which saw them defeat defending champions Australia in the semi-finals to pave the way for the summit clash, was highly commendable and needed a rude twist of fate to see them give up against the hosts in the finals and lose their claim to the coveted trophy.

But, the loss faced a neglect and the admiration for the remained intact as fans were happy with the benchmark that the entire team had set for women’s cricket in India.

Therefore, when the jubilant bunch of cricketers finally set foot on their Indian soil again, there an understandable enthusiasm among fans. The eagerness was so high, that the team had a good amount of crowd awaiting their arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The reception was electric. The cheers of India…India… echoed the airport. The number of fans received the team was quite surprising as the arrival was scheduled early morning at 3.45 AM.

The BCCI will be conducting a felicitation ceremony for the team. The date and venue has not been finalised yet as the team will be arriving in batches. After the finals, the BCCI announced that that the players will be presented with cheques of Rs 50 lakh each while the support staff will receive will Rs 25 lakh each
