Well, this certainly is very disheartening news for the countless fans of Yuvraj Singh. In terms of the cost for each run borne by his franchises Delhi Daredevils, it might prove to be another record.
During the 8th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) Yuvraj Singh has perhaps become the most expensive cricketer who was sold in about 3 million dollars but his overall performance has not justified the price paid for him. Dinesh Karthik and Angelo Matthews also cost millions to their teams as they also failed miserably in this edition of IPL. Apart from them, fast bowler Zaheer Khan took the price of every wicket in millions.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was bought at auction at a huge price of half million. As is evident, Karthik has scored only 105 runs at a mere average of 11.66 in 14 matches. Therefore, his each run cost around Rs. 10 lakh to his team. Karthik – throughout the IPL – has not been able to score even a single half-century.
Yuvraj Singh happens to be the most expensive player sold in the IPL. The stylish batsman was bought with a lot of expectations by Delhi Daredevils but he could contribute very little in comparison to the price paid. He has scored 248 runs at a poor average of 19.07 in 14 matches. Although he also played two innings with fifty plus scores but ultimately, each run scored by him has cost their Franchise around 6.45 lakhs.
Another notable failure proved to be Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews who was also grabbed by Delhi Daredevils after bidding 7 crore for him in the auction. Likewise, Matthews also had a total of 144 runs scored in 11 matches and every run had cost nearly 5.20 lakhs for the franchise.
Delhi Daredevils had opted for Zaheer Khan with high hopes as he was bought for four crores. He could not live up to the reputation and did not perform to his fullest skill and had won only seven wickets, thus each of the seven wickets compelled his franchises to shed 57.14 lakhs.
Thus this selection became a total nightmare for Delhi Daredevils. With this kind of performance, there is hardly any hope left for these player to make a comeback, sadly.
