The TNPL draft for the upcoming season was chalked out on Saturday and as expected it included few big names from the state and outside the state. The draft includes many international and domestic stars and also few IPL heroes.

Few of the big names in the draft are Murali Vijay, former Indian batsman S Badrinath, Dinesh Kartik and India A player Vijay Shanker. Former U19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand also finds his name in the draft. The notable pair of Pandya brothers is also part of the draft.

“All the big players who are registered with the TNCA are there in the draft,” a source told TOI. “We are extremely happy with the players’ response for the tournament. About 180 of them are likely to get picked by the franchises and we want each side to have the best possible squad so that the competition is intense and the crowd gets to see quality cricket,” adds source.

The draft was sent out to all the franchises and they have been called for a meeting on Monday, “The TNPL officials got together to frame the rules and players’ list and we have sent it across to the franchises so that the next stage of discussion can begin in the coming days. The players will be picked by the franchises on July 22,

“We want to ensure that everyone concerned with the tournament is on the same page,” added the source.

Tuti Patriots will have the luxury of choosing the player from the draft by virtue of the fact that they are highest bidders.

Earlier the Indian off-spinner R. Ashwin made news as he was transferred to the Jolly Rovers club and still that transfer is considered the biggest transfer of the league till now.
