The most underperforming team of the IPL, Delhi Daredevils, has had a miserable IPL for the past 3 editions. But this time around, they are looking for some reversal of fortunes.  They are the only team that hasn’t retained anyone from their previous squad. The GMR owned franchise insisted in overhauling the entire squad as they refused to retain the likes of their icon player Virender Sehwag, dangerous David Warner, Kevin Pietersen and Morne Morkel. Many cricket enthusiasts say that this move is a bizarre one but technically speaking, this is a wise move by the Delhi Daredevils management. With their decision not to retain anyone, it gives them a luxury of using 3 Joker Cards. Along with this, they also go into auctions with the entire 60 Million in hand.

The reason why this move is said to be a wise one because Delhi have a cluster of players to choose from for the Joker Card. If any other team wins the bid for the player for whom Delhi are looking to use the Joker Card, the Delhi Daredevils have a good chance of bargaining and save some money. If that particular player costs less than the 12.5 Million that is maintained as the yard stick for retentions, Delhi will save some money and can use it for buying some other players.

With the big spending Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have only slim chances of making some big signings, Delhi Daredevils will look to increase the bid and will look to sign big names. Given the current status of the team, it is very tough to say the players on whom Delhi will opt to spend their money on. Delhi will look to sign a good spinner who they missed in the previous editions. Some of the names that will be on Delhi’s radar are Glenn Maxwell, Alex Hales, Shami Ahmed, Yusuf Pathan, Brendon McCullam, Piyush Chawla and Darren Sammy. With Kevin Pietersen axed from the England team, Delhi will back themselves to use the Joker Card for the big hitting South African. Apart from KP, Delhi will try and get back David Warner, Morne Morkel or Virender Sehwag.
