IPL 2016: Gujarat Lions vs Rising Pune Supergiants – Match in Numbers

In the battle of the newcomers, it is Suresh Raina led Gujarat Lions who have come out on top and have won the match by 7 wickets. Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat and the Supergiants went on to score 163 with the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. But the opening partnership from Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum alone took the match away from the Supergiants as these two explosive batsmen scored 85 runs for the first wicket in just 8.3 overs.

Let us quickly take a look at the records that were broken and new records that were made in this match –

A new landmark for Dhoni – Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his quick innings of 22 runs has also completed his 3000 runs in Indian Premier League. He is now the seventh player to do so. Other players to achieve this feat are – Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and Robin Uthappa. Dhoni is also the batsmen in this list who often plays in the middle order.

Second most expensive over for Bravo – Giving away 20 runs in the last over of the first innings. It was the second most expensive over ever bowled by Dwayne Bravo in IPL.

Finch on a role – Aaron Finch scored his 8th fifty in IPL and second consecutive fifty in IPL 2016. Finch currently has the Orange Cap with 124 runs in 2 matches. Earlier in the same match du Plessis got the cap as he had scored 103 runs in 2 matches.

The Winner Raina – Suresh Raina has been part of a winning team in the IPL with 81 wins – most for any player. MS Dhoni is second with 79 wins.

Truly a Finisher – On 41 occasions MS Dhoni has remained not out in IPL, most for any player in IPL. Irfan Pathan is 2nd on the list and is way behind with 29 not outs.
DK and MSD – DInesh Karthik and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have both effected 24 stumpings in IPL, the most by any keeper in IPL.
Stumping Problem – Suresh Raina, after being stumped off M Ashwin’s bowling is now top of the list of players to get stumped in IPL most number of times. He is accompanied by Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa.

As this was the battle of the two new teams that replace the suspended teams i.e. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, here is a special video we have prepared based on Karan Arjun, hope will like it and definitely share it
